As a veteran, I know first-hand how important and fundamental the first few years post-service can be when joining the civilian workforce. At Sealed Air, we value the experience and knowledge of our employees who are military veterans. Veterans bring a commitment to helping others and adhering to a code of ethics. For the last five years, our Veterans Network has provided our veterans a resource to share experiences and assist each other in their professional careers. Sealed Air also partners with several nonprofit organizations focused on helping veterans with everything from career transitions, to employment, to ongoing support at and outside of work.
To demonstrate our support for military personnel, here are three ways we are committed to veterans:
Finding The Right Fit
- The first step in the transition process is determining what career options interest each individual. This is done by evaluating their previous experience and translating those skillsets and talents into corporate roles. Our partner, Patriots Path, hosts a five-week military transition program for veterans which directly addresses these needs through specialized personality and interest assessments and one-on-one career mentoring. We are pleased to host an annual event for them at the Sealed Air Global Corporate Headquarters, where we have the opportunity to not only mine for potential employees but facilitate an opportunity for any veteran looking for a job to connect with a valuable resource.
- Sealed Air is not the only company supporting veterans, and by collaborating with other corporations, we are proud to be part of a network that supports military personnel as they transition into a civilian workforce. Sealed Air partners with Veterans Bridge Home as a key member of their cohort where like-minded businesses discuss and review opportunities to hire veterans. In September 2018, Sealed Air sponsored a military hiring event with Veterans Bridge Home to expose local veterans to opportunities with more than 85 companies.
- Sealed Air is a proud sponsor of the annual Charlotte Run For The Warriors® race hosted by Hope For The Warriors®, a nonprofit that provides comprehensive support programs for service members, veterans and military families with a focus on transition, health and wellness, peer engagement and connections to community resources. Last year, more than 100 employees from Sealed Air participated in the 5K and we look forward to seeing everyone out there again for this year’s run in December.
All of us should appreciate everything veterans have done in service and sacrifice for our country. This Veterans Day, take time to thank the veterans in your life and consider volunteering or participating with organizations that help them in their transition from military service to being your co-worker.
