Happy National FFA Week!
The National FFA Organization (formerly known as Future Farmers of America) prepares young people in the United States for careers in the agriculture industry through hands-on learning and leadership experiences.
And – they’re teaching future agriculturists about much more than traditional farming, including how food safety, security and shelf life are vitally important to reducing food waste and creating a more sustainable business and supply chain.
That’s why, for the past five years, Sealed Air has been a dedicated supporter of the National FFA Organization. While we support monetarily, we also volunteer our time, talent and expertise to enriching the experience of students from across the United States.
Here are a few ways Sealed Air contributed to the FFA experience in 2018:
• We fund Living to Serve grants that provide FFA chapters with money that can be used to launch agriculture-related community projects.
• Sealed Air’s Global Corporate Headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina hosted 50 local FFA students who met with our employees and learned about career opportunities in the food packaging industry.
• We attended the National FFA Convention in 2018 where our VP of Innovation and Sustainability participated in their inaugural Blue Room – speaking to students about ways to make a waste-free future a reality.
Many of our employees are FFA alumni or proud supporters of the organization – including Dewey Bowers, a plant manager at our Grand Prairie facility. His daughter Savannah was an active member of FFA growing up and is now an FFA teacher in Texas.
Check out the video below for more on their story and how Sealed Air is continuing to support this important organization.
