Meet: Andy Payne, Packaging Applications Engineer

Where I’m located: Kettering, United Kingdom.

Length of time with SEE: 43 and a half years!

At SEE, I am passionate about: Creating solutions. We are met with many challenges within design, testing and many other tasks. These are opportunities to encourage innovation and develop new ideas. 

A typical day for me is: Not typical. Working with design means there is no such thing! We are privileged to have a variety of aspects to our workday, that’s what makes our roles so interesting. I am often asked what my job is, and after all this time, I still find it difficult to describe. I play with computers, design and create working pack designs, throw these designs about and shake them to verify they work. Then I can share my design knowledge with others.

I feel passionate about our culture at SEE, because: I still remember starting my career at SEE many years ago. I soon understood that SEE is based on a culture defined by ethics and incorporating innovation, but most importantly, our culture is enhanced by people. Changes have taken place but an underlying culture bonds the organization. 

I help our SEE Operating Engine by: Developing design and testing processes. I also helped by learning; my experiences at SEE have developed my knowledge of materials and design processes to the point that I can now share and mentor others.

The core value that inspires me the most is Innovative because: This is the key to solving challenging problems. We should never think we can complete (or not complete) a task just because we have always done it a certain way. New ideas lead to progress and develop, ultimately, rewarding advantages. 

My favorite hobby is: Continuous repair and restoration of my classic vehicle.
