Our People

Meet: Rich Timm – Quality Transformation Leader

At SEE, celebrating our people and their accomplishments is a core part of our culture. In our “Meet: Our People” series, you’ll hear directly from our people across the globe on what it’s like working at SEE, and a little bit about them outside of work.

Where are you located?  Simpsonville, S.C., USA.

How long have you been at SEE?  5 years.

What’s your favorite part of your position?  Oddly enough, as an extreme introvert, my favorite thing about my job is working with teams. Teams always go through forming and storming stages, but good things happen when people become comfortable around each other and can joke and have fun while working together. This is also when teams are most productive and do their best work. I also get excited any time I get to do something in Minitab statistical software (nerds will be nerds).

Who has inspired you to become who you are today?   My parents. They clearly modeled hard work, faith, diligence, and love for me as a child. Both parents taught me in school (Mom taught third Grade, Dad taught Industrial Arts). My dad coached my basketball teams too, and they were both always very involved in my life. They always did what they thought was best for me and loved and prayed for me each day. I’ve come to realize as I’ve gotten older that not everyone is so fortunate, and this has inspired me within my own young family.   My wife. She is a talented engineer and program manager and could have done anything she wanted in terms of a career. For our family’s gain she has chosen to be a full-time mom and now homeschool teacher to our kids, and she does all her work with excellence! She is always thinking of what others need, and she is a great friend to everyone we know. Seeing her take on new challenges and put others first is a continual source of inspiration for me.

What is your favorite mantra or quote?   “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33

Do you have any hobbies or activities you like to do outside of the office?   Outside the office, I enjoy hanging out with my wife Emily, playing with our four kids, running laps around my neighborhood, doing yardwork, fixing things, and reading.

What advice do you have for people looking to start their careers or become leaders today?   Don’t focus on being promoted. Focus on being excellent at what you do. If you are continually learning, adding value, and being helpful to those around you, people will notice. Everything else will take care of itself.
