Frequently Asked Questions

Polypropylene provides excellent moisture and oxygen barrier characteristics that help minimize spoilage and preserve freshness. Unlike certain other materials, polypropylene can withstand a wide range of temperatures making it suitable and safe to be frozen, refrigerated or heated in a microwave or oven. Many polypropylene trays are considered recyclable where RIC-5 recycling facilities exist, making PP trays one of the most widely used and popular choices for food tray packaging.

Yes – but many municipalities lack the equipment needed to handle them, and therefore either don’t accept them or sort them out of their recycling stream and send them to a landfill. Our Polypropylene VSP Trays have been certified as compatible with RIC-5 recycling streams where facilities exist, which is why they are labeled “check locally.".
